Indian film director, producer, and writer, Anubhav Sinha, is best known for directing some of the commercially successful and critically acclaimed movies of the Hindi film industry including ‘Tum Bin’ (2001), ‘Dus’ (2005), ‘Ra. One’ (2011), ‘Mulk’ (2018), ‘Article 15’ (2019) and ‘Thappad’ (2020). Hailing from Allahabad, Sinha graduated from Aligarh Muslim University in 1988. He moved to Mumbai in 1990, after working for two years as an engineer in New Delhi. In Mumbai, he began his career as an assistant director for Pankaj Parashar. He started independent direction of TV shows for Zee TV in 1994, and rose to prominence with ‘Shikast.’ He also produced ‘Sea Hawks’ for UTV. After directing TV shows, Sinha also directed music videos. He made his directorial debut in Bollywood with the movie ‘Tum Bin,’ starring Priyanshu Chatterjee, Sandali Sinha, Himanshu Malik, and Raqesh Vashishth. The movie, which was produced by Bhushan Kumar, was a huge commercial success worth Rs. 12 crores at the box office. Following his first directorial success, his second movie ‘Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai,’ performed average at the box office. However, his third movie, ‘Dus’ starring Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, Zayed Khan, and Shilpa Shetty in the leading roles, was the eighth blockbuster hit of 2005, grossing over Rs. 388.4 million at the box office. As of 2021, Sinha has directed 11 movies, produced eight movies, and has written seven movies, respectively. He is also the recipient of five Filmfare Awards.
